The Church

There has been a lot of differing opinions in regards to the church and restrictions. In many countries, depending on the Covid19 levels, church gatherings are not allowed. This brings the diverse opinion on whether Christians should take a stance against the government and still physically meet. Or do we adhere to what is said and obey?

Regardless of how we might feel, Christians all agree that it is important to be meeting together, whether online or in person; to hear God’s word and to have fellowship with one another. If anything, Covid19 has made us realize how precious it is to worship the Lord together.

However we do have online resources, and while it is not ideal, it is better than nothing. While we may be frustrated with the entire situation, it’s important to remember that the church is not a building, but the people.

The purpose of gathering is to worship and learn together, while also encouraging and building one another up. The church is the body of believers and thus we don’t need a building, (though it is preferable) and as Jesus said in Matthew 18:20 where two or tree are gathered in His Name, He is among them.

So then you are no longer strangers and aliens, but you are fellow citizens with the saints, and are of God’s household, having been built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Christ Jesus Himself being the corner stone, in whom the whole building, being fitted together, is growing into a holy temple in the Lord, in whom you also are being built together into a dwelling of God in the Spirit.

Ephesians 2:19-22

Whether we are stuck using zoom, facebook, youtube or another social platform; or whether we are able to meet together, may we remember that we are the church and as such, Christians are called to reflect Jesus and worship Him.

Life is a journey not easily taken, but how much greater the journey when we know we aren't walking it alone. I am an unprofessional writer, teacher and explorer and I seek to follow Christ wherever He takes me.
